I have read some interesting articles and watched videos by the Ruffed Grouse Society that indicate the West Nile Virus has had a devastating impact on the grouse population. There are some good studies being performed on this. Maybe West Nile has not reached them as bad in the Adirondacks and Tug Hill???
I love taking my side by side for a walk or two every fall. Fewer and fewer birds it seems with each passing year.

Lucky13... I use to cover every square inch of HiTor near Naples grouse hunting. I would flush double digits every hunt without a dog. Now if you see one it is like a rare event. Had some great days on that mountain.

Maybe the most beautiful part of the state outside the Adirondacks.

I went through the HiTor & Naples area recently. The landscape sure is different with all the wind turbines

Get used to it, as long as the guvment be handing out subsidies for pinwheels they are going to sprout all over Cuomonation. Wait until they get done in the Tughill, there will be no skyline left without windmills. And Constitutional protection for the forest preserve, how is that working out for things like freedom of assembly and religion in this panicdemic!

Windmills

Not only Gov. Can't balance a budget, but also Senator Snoozer and Goldy Gillybrand! No wonder NY State has 66% of the population leaving each year and only 33% moving in. Get ready for another surprise NY State tax increase like the other unannounced increases.
Can't even shop in Dick's Sporting Goods Store except curbside delivery/order on line.

Those giant windmills are expensive to buy and maintain. They are affected by birds, targets from disgruntled neighbors, and other factors which require service maintenance. They are a blight to the scenic views but are regarded as "green". IMO they are like another virus we all know.

The ole' saying on the lease is " pa'trig is shot on the ground on the log'n road , ruff'd grouse is shot in the woods on the wing" :P They both taste the same.
