Mt. Marcy 3-07-10 w/ photos

I'll make this report brief since Marcy seems to be a repetitive trip often seen on the forum.

Highlights from my trip:

I finally got to take one of my friends up to the top of Marcy. I had been trying to do a winter summit up Marcy for awhile now. Failed the first time after my friends did not want to deal with the -25 degree temps. Second attempt I was snowed in back home and third one was finally a success.

I love bringing people up into the high peaks for the first time. I usually get them hooked. I don't see how anyone could not get hooked being there. More hiking buddies for me

The weather was gorgeous. Sunny, warm, little wind (except the summit). My parka was off until treeline ended.

Met a ton of people along the trail and had some great conversations. Everyone on the trail is always nice.

Views from the summit were great as seen in photos below. Finally got to use my new crampons on the last stretch of the summit! Snowshoes would have worked just fine though. Stayed the night at Marcy Dam and enjoyed the night sky. Stars were great!!

Just a side note: I was very annoyed with people setting up tents at Indian Falls and also in leantos. There is no reason why someone needs to set up a tent in a teanto. My only complaint for the trip. Thankfully I enjoy roughing it and can sleep with out one.

I shoot with a Nikon D40. It's a very basic SLR.

was using a tripod and i believe my settings had an iso of 800 and obviously a long shutter speed of about 25 seconds...

thanks for the comments. Hoping to upgrade my camera at some point to a better model. Until then this shall do.

I have a poem for the accomplishment of seeing a summit with a canopy of a blue sky:

Being content in natural desire,
he asks no explanation.Just
no straits that become dire.
But thanks to that blue sky,
he can rekindle memories
to strengthen resolve to live each day as if it is your last. Looncry
