Question Where to rent back-country ski (NNN-BC) in Adirondack?

Hello!
Our group (from Maryland and from Montreal, Canada) is planning a 4-day back-country ski trip in Indian Lake area of Adirondack during the next long weekend. We normally use NNN-BC skis, but some of our team desperately need to rent skis. We know one place to rent - The Mountaineer store. But it's pretty far from Indian Lake and, more importantly, from our previous experience, the quality of their skis isn't very good (bindings were not properly strongly enough attached to skis, etc.).

Does anyone know a better place to rent skis? It may be some store in Adirondacks, or even a store in Montreal, if it's convenient enough and skis are pretty good.

Thank you!

You could try Garnet Hill: http://www.garnet-hill.com/

Or there are numerous EMS stores that rent skis.

I would add Adirondack Paddle 'n Pole west of Albany on Rte. 5. They have a good selection of rentals. Try the link below or use Google. I couldn't find a direct URL. As a general matter, xc-ski areas rent skis appropriate to groomed trails. NNN-BC equipment is scarce in quantity because those who use it purchase it outright. Garnet Hill has NNN-BC, while the Mountaineer prefers 3 pin bindings. I suggest a call to both Garnet Hill and to Paddle'n Pole. Garnet Hill is a 10 to 12 mile round trip detour off Rte. 28 on the way to Indian Lake, while Paddle'n'Pole is a short westbound hop onto Route 5 from the Northway just north of I-90.

Inside Edge - Glens Falls, NY

vkelman,

Try the Inside Edge in Glens Falls. It is west off Exit #19 of I-87 (Aviation Mall, Glens Falls, NY) and then south on Route 9 (only about 10 minutes from the exit). Here is the website:

Thanks for valuable information, everybody!

I also found one place http://www.cunninghamsskibarn.com/
Another place - a store in Montreal was recommended to me on rec.skiing.backcountry.
