  • Shore/dock fishing near Long Lake

Hello! We will be staying in the Long Lake area in a few weeks and would like to find a couple spots to take my 5yo fishing. We will not be staying directly on the water and will not have a boat so it would have to be from a public dock or easily accessible shore area. He's still at the point where it doesn't really matter what he catches as long as he catches something! So far it looks like John Dillon park has a couple fishing docks, are there any others nearby? I couldn't tell whether the Lake Eaton campground had one, I tried calling but couldn't get through to a person. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not sure of a dock location but you could rent a boat for pretty cheap at Long Lake Marina. http://www.longlakemarina.com/

You could go into Forked Lake too and rent a canoe or row boat. Its pan fish city in there.

A couple of kid-friendly spots in LL:
      • Below the causeway at Jennings Pond (at the outlet)
      • The town dock next to the LL marina
      • The dock at the DEC boat ramp
      • The canoe take-out above Buttermilk Falls
      • No dock at the Lake Eaton day use area.
But you might catch some pan fish. The LE beach is nice place for a kid to play and adults to relax.

      Enjoy your visit!

Fishin Brook Flow, 3 miles east of the village on 28N... below the old logging bridge before the Highway bridge... in the pool under the falls under dam/bridge

I'll second Buttermilk Falls- it's just a nice spot in general to hang out. There's also a couple of picnic tables there if you wanted to bring a picnic lunch.

All of the above, plus Lake Durant. There's a fishing pier and a very nice picnic area in the campground, plus free access on the old Rt. 28 across from the rest area, and from campsites and a bridge at the west end of the lake. The bridge is on the Cascade Pond trail is worth the short hike and might be your best bet there. You should be able to catch some largemouth bass in Durant using rubber worms rigged whacky style. If you're really lucky, maybe even a tiger muskie on big plugs.

Lake Durant State Campground is located east of the hamlet of Blue Mountain Lake in the Central Adirondacks. The campground is located on scenic Lake Durant with Blue Mountain in the distance. The famous Northville-Placid Trail travels through the campground. There are hiking opportunities available in the campground as well as many other in the area. There are 61 campsites available as well as a day use area that includes a beach as well as a picnic area.
              Life's short, hunt hard!
