Browns tract camping

A friend told me of this camping spot on the island he saw, is this part of the campground or a free First come first serve sit? Legal camping? Supposedly a fire ring there.

thx

According to my 1998 edition of Discover The West Central Adirondacks there is no camping allowed on Upper Brown's Tract Pond because of its proximity to the campground at Lower, so I would assume that the same prohibition on at-large camping would apply to the whole of the Lower Pond. From what I can see on my map that area is part of the Moose River Plains Wild Forest, so if you look up that UMP it will probably describe the camping exclusion zone, if there is one.

This map shows the campground boundary (courtesy of the DECInfo site):

As you can see, the entirety of Lower Pond, plus the east shoreline (the fairly popular beach swimming area) of Upper Pond are inside the campground boundary- and thus campground regulations would apply (including the requirement to secure a permit before camping).

Based on that map, I'd assume that primitive, first-come first-serve camping should be allowed on the rest of Upper Pond in accordance with the 150 foot rule (designated sites or at least 150 feet from the shore as well as from any trails or roads). But FWIW, the DECInfo site does not show any designated tent sites on Upper Pond.

I'm not at all interested in the upper pond but the island that's within your drawing. Seems its not a camping area.

If you like a remote campground, it's one of the best.
