I'm planning a trip into the Five Ponds area this September. Can anyone tell me if they are seeing any ticks in this area of the Adirondacks or in the High Peaks region for that matter as I might visit there as well. Thanks!

I have not seen any in those areas, but I would go with the assumption that they are there. I mostly find them in Saratoga Cty., and southern VT.

I wear long, tan pants and try to stick to the middle of the trail. If I come in contact with brush, I stop and do a tick check.

Spring & fall are the worst seasons for them.

Bug dope sprayed on the long pants doesn't hurt.

Not yet...

5 miles away, I've never seen a tick, pulled a tick off of myself, or found one on a pet in the past 12 years. I would be pretty confident saying they haven't quite gotten this far south/north yet.

That said, it is certainly possible as Canton, NY (30 miles to the N), has an awfully healthy tick population.

Quick tick check every evening and you'll be fine.
Save a tree, eat a beaver

Support your local forest ranger, get lost.

I think that they should host a survivor in the Adirondacks. Both teams get a over under rifle shotgun, box of matches, and a petersons edible plants field guide.
