Poll. Navigation and safety. REGISTERED MEMBERS ONLY!!

If you have already responded to this poll on ADKHighpeaks please do not respond again here.

Please note that you may choose as many options as you wish and that the poll is anonymous.
If there are certain questions that don't seem applicable to you, just leave them unanswered.
Or, some options might be very close to describing you but not quite: for instance, if you dropped your pack once 3 years ago you can choose, "I never drop mypack".

If you are a non-registered guest you are invited to participate in the same poll but click here to go to the guest poll mirror thread.

WHAT!!?? I can't vote again?? What if I changed my mind and now I like to drop my pack on top of my map and compass? Why isn't there an option for this?

My bad. I meant to edit that out. I just did.

I wanted identical polls even though I figured that if I had run a discussion thread first on this forum the poll would have ended up being different. I'm also going to run the exact same poll translated into french on a Quebec website this week.

Neil,

Are you going to post the results from the various forums here?
I think it would be interesting to see if there are any substantial differences in responses based upon the different demographics of each forum. Or maybe the defferences between forum demos is not that great?

I take it that this poll is geared more towards the folks who hike/bushwhack in the High Peaks, rather than those of us who hike/bushwhack throughout the entire Adirondack Park then...?

When I made the poll I did have the HP in mind. However, I think it is applicable to just about any hiking environment.

I think the only thing that I might have suggested adding to the poll would have been:

I always let someone know of my hiking plans and when to expect me back.
I sometimes let someone know of my hiking plans.
And,
I never tell anyone about my hiking plans.

You're right. That would have been good to add. I think I'll add it for the French version.

I never tell anyone about my hiking plans. This makes me feel a lot safer in the woods.

Actually I was going to be a wisea$$ and suggest that for ADKForum I should have added:
I hike with a gun all the time....some of the time......

but I didn't.

All of my hiking partners are Neanderthals
All of my hiking partners smell like Neanderthals
All of my hiking partners drink like Neanderthals
All of my hiking partners talk like Neanderthals
etc.

Neanderthals - it's so easy a caveman could do it.
Do you need a neanderthal for a hiking partner?

Few, if any, of my hiking partners can spell Neandrathals.

It's spelt just like it sounds:
Knee-and-or-thall

You can drop the H and pronounce it knee-and-or-tall.

Speaking of neanderthals, how about...

- I always carry an emergency means of making fire.
- I never carry any emergency means of making fire, but I do know how to make fire using primitive methods.
- I have know idea how to make fire in the event of an emergency.
