Bear & Buck Mountains, Dix Mountain Wilderness 9/12/15

Did a clockwise bushwhack loop over Bear & Buck Mountains yesterday via the
West Mill Brook trail. It's been a few months since I've been on a "hiking" trip,
and it sure felt good to get out and stretch the legs a bit.

Nothing extraordinary, 7.9 miles on the day in 7.5 hours.
Great views in all directions from both mountains!
Cloudy most of the day, but made it back to the truck just before the
rainy weather began.

Some photos to share:

Waterfall along West Mill Brook:

Campsite near West Mill Brook, as my friend Jason and I left it back in May...

View of Wyman Mountain and its "Igloo" from the small beaver pond in the valley:

View southwest from Bear Mountain:

View southeast from Bear Mountain toward Buck Mountain, my next stop:

Pano from Buck Mountain back towards Bear Mountain, with Wyman, South Dix, & Macomb to the left, Giant & Rocky Peak Ridge on the right:

View NW from Buck Mountain towards Giant & Rocky Peak Ridge:

Jenny on Buck Mountain:

View south from Buck Mountain towards Old Far, Nippletop, Camel, Niagara (barely visible),
Camels Hump, & Clear Pond Mtn:

Another pano from Buck Mountain, with Old Far Mtn to Rocky Peak ridge:

View east from Buck Mountain, colors beginning to change a bit...

Another photo of Jenny on Buck Mountain:

And one last look at the summit of Buck Mountain from its southeast shoulder:

Starting to roam a bit out of your "home range"? :-)

Beautiful area huh? There are all sorts of great whacks up West Mill and Walker Brooks just to name those two. Are you aware of TCD's book, "Life Under the fast Lane"? It details all the places where one can cross under the North way and gain access to great untramelled wilderness.

Indeed!
Last fall was my first time exploring this area on a visit to Niagara Brook Falls & Wyman Mountain, and I've been looking forward to returning ever since.
