lake George east side trail??
am wondering if anyone has hiked from pilot knob to shelving rock???
I started from shelving rock on the old "carriage" trail I think it's called and headed south toward pilot knob. the trail turned from a wide well traveled into a faint trail that looks like it doesn't get much use. went about 2miles before my companion wanted to turn around. was wondering if anyone has done entire route; we came across a few camps that are only accessible by boat bc there's no roads in this section, and wondering if this "trail" is public as to do not want to be trespassing???? I haven't been able to find any info on the web about this section of the lake.... thank mn |

That is simply an old road. It's not a public trail and does indeed run into private land. There is no official trail between these two points.

OK, I typed the wrong word. It is more of a trail than a road, but the same other info applies. There is a great trip along the shore that is further north. Climb up shelving Rock Mt. and drop down the lake level north of the Knapp Estate (private & patrolled) and pick up the old road to Black Mt. Pt.
