I see many questions pop on the forum that could be easily answered by perusing the DEC website.

You can easily drill down to subjects of interest by progressively clicking on the topic in the left panel.
For example the outdoor recreation sub-page:

You want to know about regulations? Check here:
http://www.dec.ny.gov/regulations/regulations.html

And beyond from there to specific pages on hiking and camping and anything related to the use of outdoor lands and waters. You have access to a tremendous amount of extremely useful information. Best of all it is not "hearsay".
