Help! Trail conditions for peaks under 3,000?

Taking a day trip up to the old forge area this Friday (April 18th). Was thinking about taking a jaunt up Bald Mtn, as well as maybe rocky and/or black bear mountain. Have never hiked in the spring and am not interested in renting snow shoes. Will there be snow on these smaller mountains? If so, any suggestions on where to go instead?

You will most likely encounter small pockets of snow on those peaks and some ice. Snowshoes are probably not warranted. You may want to carry some traction aid in case you encounter ice.

Okay, thanks. Are we talking crampons or microspikes?

I think microspikes would be fine. If encountering any ice that needs crampons you're probably somewhere you don't want to be.

Ditto on the spikes. The area received a couple of inches of fresh snow last night.
