River paddling in the Eastern 'Dacks
As a new paddler to the Adirondacks, I have mostly done lakes in the Saranac and St. Regis lakes areas, but I am interested in exploring some of the rivers near(ish) to Elizabethtown. I've heard that the Schroon River as some good stretches, but I don't want any whitewater. Also the Boquet. Any ideas of good stretches? Don't have to be too long.

The Boquet in Willsboro is a nice short out and back paddle to L. Champlain.
Lake Placid you have the Chubb off Averyville Rd (an up and back) and the W Branch Ausable along River Rd from the ski jumps to Rt 86. No WW on any of these. |

https://www.adkforum.com/showthread.php?t=27627 Might want to ask Boghollow if he had a chance to check out any parts of the Boquet. |

I just realized I have Phil Brown's new(2019) book "Adirondack Paddling: 65 great flatwater adventures", which discusses this a lot!

There's a 5+/- mile stretch of the Schroon from the Horicon Boat Launch at the south end of Schroon Lake to a take out right above the Starbuckville dam. No rapids, leisurely paddle. Wide and deep enough for motor boat traffic, but doesn't get a lot. The only bummer is it parallels the Northway most of the way, so you can hear road noise the entire way.
