Question Free Parking Around Mt Marcy???????

We want to hike Mt. Marcy and some of the other peaks nearby over the span of 3 days. Can anyone recommend a loop/ where we can find free parking??

Thanks,

ColdRiverTim

Free parking can be had at or near any of the major trailheads that provide access to Marcy.

Awesome thank you.

Looking to do a 3 day hike including Marcy and some other peaks (can hike anywhere from 10-15 miles a day) Can anyone suggest a loop that has camping spots and rivers along the way?

While free parking can be found at most trailheads, the 2 major trailheads to get to Marcy, The Garden trailhead and the Heart Lake/Adirondack Loj trailhead, both have fees.

You can park at South Meadows Road, if it is open for the season, for free. It adds a mile or 2 of hiking distance to get to Marcy though. There is also free camping along the road

The Upper Works lot is free and there is free parking in Keene Valley; at the Rooster Comb TH and at the lot next to Valley Grocery.

Right. Elk Lake is also free, but limited (it fills up) and a little out of the way. If you park in Keene Valley it adds 2 miles uphill to the Garden trailhead. If you go when the bus is in service you can get a bus ride. Search for the Garden Parking and Bus thread on ADKHighPeaks.

Highly recommend the ADK High Peaks Guidebook for solid information to get started.

First step is to pickup a map and guidebook, which you'll need as you're hiking. Here is one source: http://www.adk.org/product.php?pid=1...d%20Map%20Pack

Next is to familiarize yourself with the restrictions in the High Peaks area(fire ban, bear canister required, other...). This page summarizes the regulations: http://www.adk.org/page.php?pname=dec-regulations

Marcy can be accessed from any of the major trailheads, all have free parking at the trailhead or nearby. Decide which trailhead you want to start from then it will be easier to suggest possible routes.
