[U][B]A MUST READ FOR PEOPLE WANTING TO HIKE SAWTEETH:

Sawteeth is closed as it has a fire on the scenic trail due to a campfire by overnight hikers. Both trails are closed though. I was going to hike it when i learned the morning of. I did Giant and RPR on Thursday and we still saw planes going over. On Friday we heard more news that they are still attempting to put the fire out - that was July 19. Check the official ADK website for more up-to-date trail info.

So where exactly is a legal campsite on Sawteeth? Fire pit??

There is no legal place to have a fire in that wilderness area.
