Wrong turns, twisted ankles and other calamities ...

Read about them all here.

My one and only goal in life is to never make this honor roll.

So far, so good!

Wow! Looks like the rangers are pretty busy. I set my bar a little lower than Bill I. I just never want to be reported on that list as "not having a map and compass".

I was surprised that they take a UTV up to Avalanche Lake. How do they get there, up the ski trail from Marcy Dam?

Also, they are sending in rangers and a float plane to look for two people in a remote wilderness that miss one spot communication? That is ridiculous.

Lots of ankle injuries and I see a lot of folks wearing lightweight footgear. I wonder if there's a connection?

My mom and dad made that list about ten years ago. They attempted to canoe Big Brook down to Long Lake w/ their Rottweiler in late August. After being overdue for 12 hrs. we called DEC and they were located about halfway to the lake struggling thru the boulders and beaver dams. The ranger then gave them a courtesy lift back home. We were very relieved and thankful for their service, although my folks were a little embarassed that they needed "rescuing". My father blamed the 120 lb. dog, as he was the only passenger in the canoe when the ranger discovered them.

This is mis-information. The UTV goes in the truck road as far as Marcy Dam and no further.

Yeah those are pretty embarrassing and lame. Cheers to the Rangers for the great work they do. Not so much for the PR folks at HQ who try to force fit every situation into some kind of "we told you so" tag line. They should just let that go...
