I'm in the same boat as you, the operative word is "try", I usually end up being somewhere between 20 to 25 pounds.

I love this response.

My life has been made much richer due to the friends I have met on this forum. I have several highly valued friendships of 10+ years that started because I rolled the dice and went for a hike/backpack with someone I had never met in person. Sure I was nervous at first and I certainly was happy enough alone in the woods but am happy I took those small steps outside of my comfort zone. Not every person was a perfect match but never was I out in the wilderness with someone that I couldn't wait to get away from.

One gentleman, I started dating about a year after our first hike and we've been together now for 12 years.

[[edited to add: I have had bad days with people I met on a climbing forum because they were really just looking for 'hot climbing chicks' to leer at and I didn't fit that bill. Those two bad days are still absolutely worth the very good friends I have met on that same forum...one whom I just spent 10 days in Colorado with]]

I have found it "Very" hard to get hiking partners in the Dak"s I started mid September 16 and have joined the ADK and every meetup I can find and rarely are any High Peak hikes even posted. I have bagged 17 so far but many I have been SOLO in lousy weather mind you. Am I missing something here ??

Check out the individual chapters of the ADK. Albany Chapter is one that I remember being quite active.

A meet-up group I am aware of but have never participated with is Hiking Mates of the Capital Region. I get e-mails from them all them all the time informing of new hikes.

I'm willing to bet that you would not be excluded if you don't live in the Capital Region.
