![]() Hi,
I am camping with my wife at Lewey Lake at the end of August. We have never been to the Adirondacks before and are looking at getting some fishing in. We will not be bringing a boat but would rent one if that is an option. I do a lot of shore fishing where I live and our campsite is right on the creek connecting Lewey Lake and Indian Lake. We will also have our fishing licences. From scouring the message board already, it seems like Lewey Lake is good for Northerns and Smallies. I'm mostly interested in smallies, perch and trout. Northerns are fun to catch, but I'm not really interested in eating them. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. |

Like most campground lakes, Lewey gets pounded, especially around the campground and the creek where you are staying. If the winds are light, rent a canoe and go on Indian Lake or go to the other end of the Lewey Lake and up the Miami River. If you can get over the beaver dams you may have better fishing. DEC's map says there are lake trout in there, but I've never caught them.

Thank you Buckladd. I was looking at renting a boat from the Indian Lake Marina for at least one of the days. I've read that around Doherty Island can be pretty good for smallies.

[QUOTE=Buckladd;232803]It took a long time to figure out how to consistently catch fish in Lewey Lake. And even now I have some trouble. Like this weekend I could only catch 4 perch which lowered my total on pike. I spent hours trying to catch perch for bait. I like fishing Lewey it's such a beautiful peaceful lake.

Nice catch Wellsely. Lewey Lake has been on my ice fishing bucket list for awhile but Indian always won out when I was up there. This coming ice season I'm going to have to make it a priority after seeing this. I'm not a big pike fisherman but do target them occasionally. Do the perch in Lewey get to a decent size or are they all stunted?

Other than a few sunnies around my campsite the only thing I've caught on Lewey lake is a few smallmouths, usually away from the campground. I never targeted pike there. Very nice! I agree on the peacefulness, it is one of my wife's favorite places to camp.

Nice goin' Wellsley! I'll be up at Lewey next week. Hopefully I'll have at least the same luck as you did!

Lake Durant is very peaceful. It is a good lake for kayaks and canoes. There is an over abundance of mil-foil which makes fishing and boating challenging. If your looking for fishing lg. mouth and tiger musky are there. But the mil-foil has made this lake a mostly a top water lure lake. If your fishing from shore across the lake from the camp ground is an old road that has several spots you can fish from. Otherwise a kayak, canoe or small boat will take you all over the lake.
