Colden with dry knees

The Lake Arnold section of the trail to Mt Colden that is notoriously wet. How is it in winter, or anyone care to speculate how it is now with these thawing temps. Heading up next week, hope to try Colden with low temps in teens and highs in thirties for Lake Placid.

Also - is this section between Avalanche Pass and the junction with Indian Falls crossover or between that function and the L Morgan Porter trail.

Thank you

In well frozen winter, it's fine, of course.

The problem segment is neither of the two segments that you mentioned. Rather, the problem is on the segment running south from Lake Arnold to Feldspar Lean To, in the valley between Colden and Gray.

If you are hiking Colden via Lake Arnold, from the Loj, you will not encounter the problem segment. Of course there are problems everywhere at this time of year, and you have to be careful. Don't get wet on a cold day.

But the particular segment south of Lake Arnold is a travesty, and should be extensively re-routed, or closed. In the spring, it's a serious safety hazard.
