Taylor Pond
Anybody been there recently?
Friends tell me they very recently saw dieing fish there and lack of 'normal' weed growth! These are people who live nearby and or canoe there often. Those fish and lack of weeds is abnormal there. The fish resembled suckers but none should be there and were covered in sores. I did not see them but told friends to report it to the DEC. |

I was there Labor Day weekend 2020, I didn't see any dead fish nor did I see any in the shallows, I did see a few fish jump and several loons on the Lake. We only saw one person fishing. I did notice a few weed beds on the far side from the campground.

The shallow (outlet end) of the pond would support weed growth, well as the extreme S.W. end. It would not surprise me to find suckers in the pond. Shore fishermen often used them for Lake Trout bait.

I was there in Sept. salmon fishing. Did not see any dead fish, and only caught a few small salmon.

Suckers are native to many oligotrophic Adirondack waterbodies. While the NYS species list for Taylor Ponds does not list them, this could be a product of sampling date and method. Certainly, the White Sucker distribution map is covered with dots in the Adirondacks, so they were certainly obtainable nearby for bait before the draconian baitfish rules. I think it is odd that you didn't hear back, I have received calls from Encon officers when I reported something in the last couple of years. But they were also tasked with assistance with COVID in downstate urban areas so they may have been very shorthanded.
