Vermont primitive car camping
Trying to knock off my 5 Vermont 111ers in a weekend via pull off/primitive sites for car camping (like Corey's or South Meadow). Found a bunch in Green Mountain national forest, but would like some sites farther north. I hear Mansfield NF has some but can't seem to find out where-any info would be appreciated-S&S

Mount Mansfield is in a State Forest, not a National Forest. Here is a link to regulations for primitive camping on State Forest land in VT: http://fpr.vermont.gov/recreation/ac...ping/primitive
Similar to NY- 100 feet from water, 3 night stay, etc. So if you can't find anything, you can just set up a primitive spot anywhere on State Forest land (just make sure it's not a State Park). It sounds like you can get information about where to camp by calling the appropriate VTFPR office for the area you plan to camp in: http://www.vtstateparks.com/htm/primitive_where.htm There are also campgrounds at Smuggler's Notch and Underhill State Parks, but I believe they are fee-use. |
