Pillsbury -> West Lake 2

Hi All,
Heading into the West Canada Lakes Wilderness later this month for the 1st time in about 7 years. I recalled 2 bridges that needed to be crossed when going to West Lake 2 from Pillsbury. The shorter of the 2 was in pretty rough shape, as I recall, & the other longer bridge wasn't much better. (memory is a little sketchy) What are the conditions of those bridges now, still passable? TIA

I think you're referring to the bridge over the outlet of Mud Lake (the start of West Canada Creek) as the first bridge, and the bridge over the outlet of South Lake as the second bridge. AFAIK, both bridges are intact and in good condition. The first does wash out once a decade or so during particularly high spring flows. The second is in a spot that never really sees fast-moving water (even when the water is particularly high) and that bridge has persisted for several decades now without issue (although if the water is high, you may be wading through ankle-deep water to get to the bridge on either side).

Expect mud (and possibly areas of standing water) on the French Louie Trail, however- that's the trail connecting Perkins Clearing to West Lake by way of Pillsbury and Sampson Lakes. Generally the majority of the trail is mostly dry, but it goes without question that portions of it can be wet, any time of the year.
