Ha-De-Ron-Dah Wilderness Question
I'm wondering where the hills are that have views. Per a Jun. 11, 2020 column in Lake Placid News... "If you are interested in short bushwhacking adventures there are some nice open summits like Coal Mountain, Quarry Mountain, Cross Mountain, 6-Mile Mountain and the cliffs over Lost Lake." No map I've yet found names prominences other than Bare Mt. and Moose River Mt. How do I find Coal, Quarry, Cross and 6-mile? (Have not yet connected to the LPN columnist.) Thanks.

I've never been in that area. But these sites:
https://www.cnyhiking.com/Ha-De-Ron-DahWilderness.htm https://andyarthur.org/map-ha-de-ron...ilderness.html appear to be the Newspaper writer's sources, and they may give you some leads. |

Not familiar with any of those myself. I'm not aware of any of the views either, but I've never whacked out there.
EDIT: Lost Lake is, per the Nat Geo Map, 1.5 miles west of Middle Settlement lake. So I assume you could find the cliffs that the author is speaking of. Last edited by montcalm; 11-16-2020 at 04:05 PM.. |

Those are all described in Bill Ingersoll"s fourth edition of "Discover the Southwestern Adirondacks".

The CNY web link has lots of good information, often gleaned from other sources, including Andy Arthurs very attractive maps.

Thank you all for the responses. TCD & MTVhike: Yes I'd looked at CNY Hiking. The hills in question are listed, but no links to descriptions nor identification on the maps. montcalm: Cliffs are visible on satellite images by Lost Lake, we will check them out if we get down that trail. Wldrns: I ordered the guide book you referenced which just arrived and sure enough it describes and locates all the hills with views I was asking about. Good lead! Looking forward to exploring the Ha-de-ron-dah this winter.
