Bear Cat

Last week I visited a place in South Western PA, where I do charity work in the woods. It is a Franciscan Retreat where clergy go to recollect and rest and pray. I have been donating my time there for over twenty years. Recently someone put out some corn and feed blocks for the deer in hopes of attracting more deer. They also put up a nature camera to see what it would attract.

The report was two deer, a fox and deer eating together, two coyotes, two black bear, and two Amishmen and some old guy on a quad. (me).

What the two Amishmen were doing there is anyone's guess.

A caretaker lives close by and his wife saw a black bear approaching their house. When the bear reached the garage he was about twenty feet from a mother cat and a new litter of kittens which she had moved under the garage. The bear paused and turned its head toward the litter. That's when the cat sprang into action. Not a very big cat but it sure had nerve. It leaped onto the bear and terrorized the bear until it turned around and headed for the woods with the cat right on its back. The bear was outgunned that day.

Any one else hear of a cat facing off with a bear and biting and scratching the hell out of it?

Never heard of that, but cats can be pretty fierce.
A few weeks ago this video of a cat rescuing a little boy from an attacking dog made the rounds on the internet. The cat just launches itself at the dog like a cannonball.
He found himself wondering at times, especially in the autumn, about the wild lands, and strange visions of mountains that he had never seen came into his dreams.
