Long Pond Campsites - tables?

Hi folks - we'll be heading to Long Pond for a few day basecamp in the end of June - I've never camped there before. Google is showing me a few sites that had picnic tables, but the majority don't seem to. Is that still how it is now? Just trying to plan out tables/chairs etc.

Usually only at lean tos, if at all at backcountry sites.

I don't specifically recall any. I wouldn't count on it.

That makes sense - while just clearing a spot for a campsite can likely be done with just items (tools) carried in, building a lean-to usually requires more to bring in the materials. So, while bringing in those materials bringing a bit extra for a table is not a big addition, unlike trying to get the table materials to the campsite spot would be.

Many of the leanto associated picnic tables were probably created with scrap material left over from refurbishing the floor of old leantos on site by the Lean2Rescue group. That is how it was done with the one on Kiwassa Lake last month.

I generally would not expect to rely on existing tables at any primitive/backcountry site. The DEC does not supply them, any that do exist are typically courtesy of someone who put the effort into lugging the materials back there. The vast majority of sites do not have them.

The DEC will actively remove any tables that are constructed by nailing or otherwise affixing materials to standing trees, as it can (and usually does) damage the vegetation. Please do not do this.

I will often carry a Crazy Creek folding chair for backpacking trips (or at the very least, a foam butt pad for sitting on if I'm trying to go pretty light).

i have personally dismantaled many such wobby illegally constructed "tables".

Well we know that some come into existence via BSA projects. So I wouldn't say all are bad.

Just rare unless you are at a lean to or roadside site. Sometimes motorboat access water sites will have them.
