Question What to do, what to do

Hey. First post. Me and a buddy are looking to do some trout fishing the middle of May. Neither one of us has ever caught a trout so I'm pretty stoked. Just had a couple of questions. I was trying to make sure we put ourselves in some good ponds. I did some research and think I found some good ones. We're taking a canoe and pond hopping west of upper Saranac lake and the SRCa. I won't get into specific places but was wondering how those areas are. I've asked 5 other people and get mixed answers.

Secondly how do you catch trout. We're both experienced at fishing but never had the opportunity. We don't have fly rods so will be using regular spinning rods. What lures? What to look for in the water? What time of day? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you're not using fly gear, I'd recommend Lake Clear Wabblers (a couple of recent threads on here about them) and troll really slow with a worm or streamer behind the wabbler. My other favorite trout lure is an EGB Blinker, though they are getting hard to find. Lots of folks use Mepps Spinners or Rooster Tails. Of course, Adirondack Bacon (worms) will outfish most everything.
