You pose a tough question.
Walleye fishing always slows in the late summer, the best bet is to go nocturnal.
The Union Falls impoundment on the Saranac River has a pretty good walleye population and there is a boat rental service nearby.
Tupper Lake and Lake Placid hold some big Lake Trout, but it's going to be difficult because fish will be down to depths below the thermo plane.
