Another tidbit.
If you take a right just after the confluence of Long Lake and the Raquette, you'll find the Cold River. A short paddle up there's a nice leanto on the left bank.

A narrow, winding stream.
No campsites at that time. Mid 60's.

Your notes are correct about several separate rapids between the start of them and where they end at Mother Johnsons old cabin. (gone now)

You may be thinking about Axton to the rapids on the Raquette River.
That's a really nice day paddle. Upstream on the way to the rapids and an easy float back to Axton.

I'll make an example with Pharoah Lake.
That lake is loaded with sun fish...
