Great idea. The SST terminates at the MST in the middle of Rothrock, not even a trailhead (but near one). A great route would be starting on the SST far enough south to get the Throne Room and 1000...

Yeah, the views are great; I haven't been up there since they took the stairs down though (years ago). There's been some logging just east of the tower unfortunately, but the area's still worthwhile....

Greenwood fire tower isn't technically open to the public. While it's not fenced off, the bottom steps have been removed to prevent access (possible to climb but obviously not encouraged). It's a...

Sounds like a good trip! I personally love the rickety-ass-bridge, there's-supposed-to-be-a-campsite-is-that-really-it nature of PA forests. Would love to see the pics when you get them processed!

I think the BFT is often rated as hard because it's being compared to other trails in the region. Most people hiking it are at least somewhat local, so it makes sense to compare it to the West Rim...

Great choices to queue up next. Try the BFT when it's likely to be less crowded, and maybe pass on the QT until mid/late August to avoid the nettles, but those are probably my two favorite PA...

Nice find! I wouldn't want the QT to abandon Sanders Draft, but it's a shame there's not an established route up there.

I think it was a post of yours that clued me in, but that's been on my list for years. I just hadn't been able to convince my main hiking partner to go. Now that we've both moved from the area, it...

I really enjoyed it. We accessed it from where the CKT crosses 144 west of the Fish Dam lot. The trail down is completely gone, and it's a steep descent covered with tornado debris. The upper stream...

Yup, the old route along Dennison Fork is still visible in a few spots, and is really excellent if you don't mind a bushwhack. The trail to access it is completely gone though. I love these old...

You got plenty to think about already, but of that list I'd suggest considering the east loop of the Quehanna Trail and the west loop of the Chuck Keiper Trail.

The QT loop, at ~41 miles, is a bit...

I just found your writeup, and the comment about the swirling snow reminded me of something. Looking back through my pictures, a friend and I were apparently out for a run on the Rock Run trails...

Ah, I've been looking at that for a while, but haven't managed to get there. Looks great, and thanks for sharing! I still need to check out the stretch upstream from Bridge Trail.

That's a great idea. The last few times I've followed the old Dillon guidebook suggestion of walking the drainage down, and while I'd rather do that than walk a gasline, it's full of downed trees and...

Wow, that's ridiculous, and so incredibly helpful. I've already started adding the PA shelters on there (Old Logger's Path & Susquehannock Trail so far). Thanks for sharing!

Fun area, but some of those trails definitely don't exist, like the stretch along Hammersley Fork between the STS and Dutlinger NA. That said, I love these maps showing defunct trails. Some of the...
