I would assume that it's not the power consumption, but the inconvenience for others when a few individuals tie up the outlets for hours and hours.

Friends of mine introduced back country camping...

Friends of mine introduced back country camping to other friends at that site.
It is easily hiked to and generally not a popular site.
But, but, but, this is not a typical year!
