Had a good but challenging four day trip. As I mentioned, it has been a few years since I've done any kind of backcountry trip with a canoe. I tried to do mostly single carries, forgot how tough...

Pretty bad in the st. regis canoe area this weekend at times. I got chewed up good on Friday. Saturday and sunday weren't bad with the rain and cooling temps.

How big of leech patterns do you use on the ponds?

i have always used pretty small leech patters, say less that 1.5" but have some bigger ones that I use for smallmouth (about 3"). Has anyone had any success with bigger leeches when fishing for...

Ponds in June

Been away from this forum for a couple of years after moving out of state. Planning a June trip to the Adirondacks to hit backcountry ponds (location still to be decided) but was wondering how late...

Not sure if your trip already occurred, but I would second the recommendation to call up wiley's flies and set up a trip. Highly recommended and they fish a variety of waters.

If you are focusing primarily on small streams, might as well go with the 2 weight. I use a 3 but that is because I occasionally fish larger streams with it. But the fish are generally so small...

Whoever said that you cast the line not the "lure" is on the money. Also need to be throwing some combination of fur and feathers. Casting nightcrawlers with a fly rod/line is not fly fishing.

Not sure when you are going, but cranberry lake is a nice campground with nice sites that are generally good sized and not right on top of each other. As far as campgrounds go, it is a good one imo.

If I was just going to fish the streams, I would say 9 foot 4 weight. But since you are looking for 1 rod for all situations, I would go with a 9 foot 5 as that will be better in the ponds. The...

Why do rainbows do so poorly in the adirondacks

Was thinking about this the other day. Was curious as to why rainbows seem to do so poorly in the adirondacks. While there are certainly plenty of them stocked, it seems as though very few hold...
