Peekamoose Blue Hole permit fee

I saw in the news that DEC was going to impose a $10 fee for permits to Peekamoose Blue Hole in the Catskills. I was disappointed to read that.

I am a big fan of the permitting system implemented...

I've never been on the Adk Experience trails. But if you're looking specifically in the general vicinity of Blue Mountain Lake, both Death Brook Falls and Rock Lake are good easy hikes that a 3 yo...

I went to the AMR yesterday for the first time ever. I am a huge fan of the reservation system and hope there is a way to expand it. The process was quick and easy and fair.

I almost never hike in...

This is emblematic of how DEC and the Cuomo admin have mismanaged the High Peaks. They ignore the obvious problems for years, despite all the stakeholders them to develop a coherent plan. Then when...

Interesting to see how it plays out in practice. I'm supportive of it in theory. There is no God-given right to kill the Golden Goose. Hiker-ship at the AMR is like 5 times higher than when they...

None of the info I found online or in the ADK guide book mentioned it being a seasonal road - nor was it mentioned on the DEC website which usually lists seasonal road closures - so it's not...

Floodwood Mountain road closed?

So I tried to go to Floodwood Mtn last weekend but a little under 6 miles from the trailhead (acc'd to Google Maps), there was a sign saying the road was closed in 5 miles. So I turned around. Anyone...

You forgot the key 4/1 update: Governor Cuomo and commissioner Seggos announced that the DEC would be adding 40 new forest ranger positions to the Adirondacks to deal with surging hiker demand.

Parking areas on NY74

Anyone know if the parking areas on the north side of the Pharaoh Lake WA on Route 74 are plowed? Last time I went, I couldn't go to my top two choices of snowshoe because the parking areas weren't...
