I am probably the wrong person to ask. Every dog I have ever had tries to bite the deer flies, horseflies, and stable flies as they swarm around, damn near tipping us over in the canoe sometimes.

100% agree, and the German Sheperds owner should be ashamed of themselves. Especially on a busy trail! I love all dog breeds but something about a German Shepherd that is unleashed and loudly barking...

I have been swimming in Crane Pond and Pharaoh Lake since early childhood and have never seen a leach in either. Large water snakes and snapping turtles however

You can always follow that stream to the south for a short bit, where it makes the sharp bend and goes from Stony Brook to Grassy Brook (same steam) to the site of an old camp. I have not found any...

Sadly it is true lean-tos are a magnet for many people. Misuse, abuse, trash, and other things left behind is not at all uncommon. A 46er status means nothing in this regard.

Yeah that and there are places like the Lake George Land Conservancy etc that require dogs to be leashed but for the most part Forest Preserve lands do not.
