Weber grill

I've taken my Forester in there a few times to kayak Crane pond. That Alder meadow stretch can be hairy at times - not always sure just how deep it is! Probably wouldn't do it right now due to all...

Not a fan at all of all the metal posts that now block the entry of any vehicles onto these pull-off areas. To me this is a horrible traffic accident waiting to happen. I get that parking is not...

re: Who's tying now

I tie a LOT of parachute type patterns. Klinkhamer types are my favorite (my avatar). Parachutes seem to be the best of multiple worlds for fishing either an emerger, cripple, spinner, or dry fly...

re: Who's Tying

Already filled one of those big plastic compartment boxes with trout flies, a couple other smaller fly boxes, and did a few Steelhead patterns as well. I haven't done so much tying in many years,...

re: Vasques

They were Vasques Clarion GTX model I think. Not sure if still made, but they were great boots. Would've lasted much longer if my pup, Abbie, hadn't chewed the soles off!:D

I had a pair of Merrell's that almost got me killed on Giant a couple decades ago. I hope they changed the rubber they used for their soles since then. They wouldn't grip for anything it seemed...

Norway Maples

Ahh, thanks for info. I figured my two Norway maples were killing the grass under them. They were planted in front of my house ~30 years ago by the developer. They look real nice and provide lots...

re: WCC in shambles

That section by Trenton Falls bridge was altered heavily years before Irene hit in 2011 even. Used to make a nice curve to the right going downstream with a nice deep hole where I used to catch a LOT...

Jabe Pond Rd

Was in pretty decent shape on Sunday with some erosion as expected with all the rain we've had, but easily navigable in my Forester. Found a Honda Fit that drove up there with a kayak on it too, so...

Beavers

Humans removed all the predators to beavers so now there are a lot more of them out here building dams all over the place unchecked. We altered the balance that nature used to keep their populations...

Stillwater

Don't recall there being any outhouses, or even 'thunder boxes', on any of these sites. I did find where someone left a bucket with a toilet seat on it out behind my site, but I don't believe there...

I drive my Forester down a few times each year and kayak fish the pond. Went twice this year. Just go slow, it's not bad. The road into Crane Pond near Schroon is much worse. Leanto was more...

Most of these State campgrounds closed on Sep 3rd due to lack of staffing. Putnam Pond is still open till Oct 18th I think, but has a skeleton crew working there. Paradox Lake is closed but can...

If I had a Hornbeck that weighed ~15 lbs I would consider it, but my kayak weighs about 50 lbs. I could always put it on wheels though, but how I got there, to me, is irrelevant unless it was...

Drove into Crane Pond (Pharaoh Mtn area) hoping to get a nice day of paddling and fly fishing the pond for the first time and to spend a night out. Got there and found more than 20 cars parked. ...

re: Kunjumuk cave

Don't know the name of the road, but if paddling up Kunjumuk from Route 30, its the first bridge you come to, then get out and head east. It's about a quarter mile from the bridge, then about 100...

In the mid-late 40's (not sure of year), my dad and his siblings, plus a couple friends and cousins, set up a campsite just outside village of Mayfield, NY. They camped out in these woods there all...
