Any killer reserve-able Lean To sites?

I'm looking for some help in planning a trip next summer for our annual ADK pilgrimage. We've got a bigger size group (8-9), and I'm looking to secure a Lean To. I know most aren't reserve-able, but it would save us a bunch of time.

Any thoughts?

Any totally awesome fishing holes to share?

In general, no lean-tos are reservable, they are first come, first serve. However, DEC campgrounds may have lean-tos that are reservable.

Actually, the L2 at Weller Pond is reserveable because it is under the jurisdiction of the Saranac Lake Islands Campground. I don't remember the site number, but you can look it up. I'm not up to speed on regulations about max numbers, but it's definitely worth checking out. As state campgrounds go, this place is a gem. We were able to park for three nights at the Middle Saranac lot off of SR 3. It's not a long paddle to Weller.

Tioga Point Campground is a unique, boat-access-only campground.

Tioga Point is pretty nice. The lean-tos are pretty close together but there are a couple nice ones. Some friends & I go every year.

ADK Lodge and Johns Brook Lodge have several options for reservation.

as others have mentioned
try some private campground leantos to reserve
other than that would recommend starting out early/midweek as opposed to on a weekend
midweek rarely are they occupied
remember leantos are intended to be shared and not used as your own personal campground, their intent is to give hikers shelter,

-Lean-tos are available in many areas on a first come first served basis. Lean-tos cannot be used exclusively and must be shared with other campers.

What about the handicap accessible lean-tos at John Dillon Park? I thought someone told me they had opened up that facility. www.paulsmiths.edu/johndillonpark

It does but the campground is in one place and the leantos are in another about a half mile away. You do have to walk to the LTS or boat, The walk can be very wet/swampy but the LT's and the settings real nice.
Good swimming and fishing in Taylor Pond and Catamount is next to it. In summer one can also rent a canoe there.

I didn't see anyone mention Alger Island on 4th Lake in the Fulton Chain. The campground is managed by the DEC and has many reserveable lean tos. It is also boat access only, but there are plenty of places to rent nearby if you need one.

There are 4 LTs in the NYS Saranac Lake Islands Campground that you can reserve in season - on Middle Saranac Lake there is Weller Pond, Hungry Bay, and another at the eastern end near the Saranac River. As the river widens going east into Lower Saranac Lake, there is one more LT. I like all 3 on Middle Saranac.

Also, the Adirondack Mtn. Club (ADK) rents several lean-tos at their Wilderness Campgreound at Heart Lake (by The Loj), and a couple more on their Johns Brook Lodge (JBL) property.
