Adirondack Forum Rules

Forum Rules, Disclaimer, and Privacy Statement

We do insist that you abide by the rules and policies detailed below. If you agree to the terms, please check the 'I agree' checkbox and press the 'Register' button below. If you would like to cancel the registration, click here to return to the forums index.

1. Absolutely NO personal attacks will be tolerated. If you believe a poster is in violation, please report the post to one of the moderators. Do not attempt to “settle” the issue publicly, as it will only serve to worsen the situation.

2. Posting should be “on topic.” That is, it should relate to the Adirondacks. We understand that occasional off-topic references may occur, but entire off-topic threads or posts are not allowed.

3. When posting, please remember that there are real people on the other side of the conversation. Consider your post carefully before sending. Remember that sarcasm and innuendo often do not translate well over the internet. Disagreements that are posted politely and are respectful of others are fine.

4. The Owners and Staff of Adirondack Forum reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread, remove or change any avatar, username or signature, and to suspend or ban user accounts for any reason. A respectful exchange of differing opinions is normal and welcomed. However, posts deemed to be deliberately inappropriate, antagonizing, or inflammatory in nature (to be determined by the moderators and administrators, whose decisions are final) will be deleted. Posters with two such deleted posts will be suspended for one week. If there are subsequent violations, the poster will be permanently removed from the forum.

5. The following have no place on Adirondack Forum and are absolutely prohibited in posts, avatars, or signature files:

a. Profanity

b. Politics (except as it relates specifically to the Adirondacks)

c. Religion (except as it may relate to the Adirondacks).

d. Sex: neither discussion nor posting of graphic material is allowed.

e. Engaging in or promoting activities which are illegal.

6. There are several topics which are appropriate to discussion of the Adirondacks, but have caused problems in the past, due to the tendency for them to become polarized and/or politicized. These topics, while allowed, should be approached with particular sensitivity and will be closely monitored. They include, but are not limited to: wilderness ethics, dogs in the Adirondacks, use of guns in the Adirondacks outside of the context of Adirondack hunting, ATVs, snowmobiling, global warming (as it applies to the Adirondacks), trail running, etc.

7. We do not permit advertising or spamming OF ANY KIND! This includes posting items for sale, except in the classified section, with proper permissions.

8. Please create threads within the proper forum location. If you're not sure which location is correct, either post the thread in the General ADK area, or send a private message/email to a member of the staff for guidance.

9. You MUST keep a valid email on file. If you do not, your posting privileges will be suspended and your account may be locked out.

10. Adirondack Forum offers a Photo Gallery hosting account for members who would like to post pictures for forum use only. Please visit this thread for instructions on activating your account and on usage terms and conditions.

11. For tips on remaining civil, please visit David Mann's humorous and useful site: here
