Great day for a hike! Left the camp at marcy dam at 11:30am towards avalanche lake. stopped at the lake for a bite to eat and pictures, and then we were on our way through the shutes and ladders. Got to see two folkes climbing the trap dike, so now i know what that's all about! That's crazy!!!! Once we reached the trailhead to the summit of algonquin we topped off our water bottles and headed up. And by "up"...... i mean "UP"! That's one heck of a hike going that way to Algonquin. Very rewarding though! I think we sat at the top of the mtn enjoying the views from about 4 to 4:30pm. From there we went down the other side of the mtn heading towards heart lake, very muddy and slippery through here. Didn't go all the way to heart lake though, once we reached the junction for marcy dam we headed in that direction. Very long strenuous hike! made it back to camp by 7pm. Here are just some of the pics.

Great hike and pictures! Algonquin is definately one of my favorites, and it's just the classic High Peak. Was the trail up to the ridgeline from Lake Colden mostly bedrock, and was it very eroded? I have not yet climbed from that side, but will get there in time

As far as i could tell, not much erosion. you deffinitley do alot of bed rock walking. the trail keeps popping out on a stream(not sure if it's named or not) and that's all flat bedrock and pretty steep too, for whatever reason the boots were sticking right to it though,so it wasn't that bad. If i had the choice i would go that way again, i've hiked from heart lake to wright's peak before and going down that side of algonquin this time... they were both the same trail condition- wet, muddy and slippery. not sure if i'd want to climb algonquin in them conditions. either way, the summit is worth it though.
what are the four eye bolts lagged into the top of the mtn ?We attract hearts by qualities we display; we retain them by qualities we possess. JBAS

Algonquin - one of my favorites to be sure. I did that steep yellow trail from Lake Colden twice this year - March and May. I prefer winter, because you can walk up the middle of Avalanche Lake (no chutes & ladders), get a great look up into the dike, and the climb up the trail to Boundary/Algonquin is easier on snow... and MUCH easier if you come back down that way!
