Friday, Sept 5th ... we had this trail to ourselves.
trail in good shape overall, a couple recent (within the month?) blowdowns that were easily negotiated. lots of nice places to stop along the way by the creek for refreshment and a cooling breeze. the only time we had any bugs was when the trail entered the woods and moved away from the creek. very peaceful & relaxing at the lake; the lean-to we visited was relatively clean (some clever individual had carved a chess/checkerboard into the floor tho). didn't see or hear any loons despite reading about them in the lean-to logbook. many other birds flying about, including a hawk who circled above us just as we were leaving. plenty of small fish swimming about near the lean-to "beach". logbook reported sunnies, bullhead, and trout being caught in the lake over this summer.
we didn't see any evidence of ATV or dirtbike activity which had been mentioned in our older ADK guide. someone had taken a horse along the trail for a ways but had apparently not gone all the way because the hoof prints disappeared as did the horse manure after a while.
very nice stonework done on the trail going up the ridge between the suspension bridge and the lake ... our compliments to the trail crew who did a nice job with the water bars, etc.
