    Chimney Mountain 9-1-08

I climbed Chimney Mountain today with a fairly large group. It was a lot of fun and we spent a lot of time just chillin' and climbing around on the boulders near the big chimney. The trail is very eroded, but in most spots it is just down to bedrock so it is still easy going. We spent so long near the chimney that we never got to explore the big caves; is there anyone who has been in there recently? The parking fee is still two dollars and the view was excellent and clear all the way to the High Peaks. Other people came and went, including a bunch of rock climbers, but there were so many cool places to explore that the top was never really crowded. This is an excellent hike for all ability levels.

Here are the links to some pictures from the hike:

    Mr. Doktor,
Chimney was always a favorite of ours when the kids were smaller, we would spend all day poking around the caves...lots of fun and something for everyone.
I checked out your photos, man, we should have seen each other by now, we've been to many of the same places.
I'm intrigued by your photos of Cascade Pond...would it be worth having a boat there?

I dunno. It would certainly be a long way to carry a boat in there, but it's a beautiful pond with a couple nice bays. When I was there we saw an otter swimming across it. If you brought a boat, you'd probably have the pond for yourself. It's still a great camping spot boat or no boat; I'm not sure about the fishing.
