The Dix Range 8/16 and 8/17

My daughter and I bagged 5 peaks on Aug.16th&17 in the Dix Range. We set up camp at the trail head to Macomb and headed straight for Dix itself. About 1/3 the way up the storm moved in and our first thought was to hunker down and wait. After an hour and some discussion, moving on(because you can't get any wetter)seemed to be our collective option. Good move, as we approached The Beckhorn the weather was becoming better & better. We summited in sunshine, had a well deserved snack, and took some great photos. Returned to camp via the same route.
Sunday 8/17 - Up early and on to Macomb and the others. Climbing the slide up Macomb was an experience(right Corin??!!)but isn't that what 46ing is about?. The trails were better than we had expected muddy at best but we took our time and used caution as some of the "jack rabbits" will atest to. Even at a cautious pace we made Carson,Grace and Hough. We got back down to the Dix (red) trail by way of The Lillian Brook Trail which is not bad at all thanks to some very hard work by many.... to those many ...Thank You. Got back to camp completing quite a circuit for a day. Ate a great "just add water supper" got in our jammies and lights out.
Monday morning break camp and pack out to Elk Lake discussing our next backpacking possibilities.

Congrats on your big weekend. I only wish that Lillian Brook was a viable option when I first did those peaks!

Lillian Brook Trail was surely a life-saver. It seems quite long but it puts you near a midpoint between the two campsites once you are back to the Dix trail. At that point in the day, I can't imagine going back over Macomb and down the slide.

Congratulations on some challenging peaks, particularly with the weather we've been having. The Dixes are a great range to do lots of peaks with great views and different trail conditions; our kids gained a lot of confidence from them.

            enjoy,
            Marshall

Due to a missed opportunity on my first trip to the Dixes, I needed just Hough to complete that range when I returned the following spring. I had quite an adventure on the "day" I finally summited Hough, being somewhat delayed as I returned over Macomb after dark..... THANK YOU to the trail crew that has opened Lillian Brook! I now need Carson, Grace, and Hough for my "W", and Lillian Brook could be my ticket to getting those 3 in the snow.
