    Goodnow Mt. Firetower

I know that many who visit this forum are recovering from the forum xmas party last night; but I Got bored today and went over to goodnow in Newcomb to break in some new equipment. 3" of snow at the register 10" at the top. I used snowshoes all the way up and back just for traction; but it could be barebooted I over dressed and had to strip down about 10 minutes into the trip and was still overdressed. It was -15 yesterday and 30 today. Tomorrows high is going to be -1 so I was dressed for Sat. & Mon. Lots of wildlife out, deer turkies, and a fox. When I say turkies I mean the bird not redsox fans. Sorry had to throw that in. The trail has very little use I was only the second person to sign in since 12/5.

I did that hike in the late fall and saw nobody out there when I did it. The views from the firetower are incredible (High Peaks in all directions!) and the hike was easy. There were a few cool things to look at on the way up as well: a concrete platform for a viewing area, a old horse barn, and a ranger's cabin that was museum-like on the summit. Definately a must-do if you are in the area
