    Mt. Arab fire tower

Got bored and decided to take advantage of the sun and warm weather. So I hopped in the car drove 15 minutes and climbed Mt. Arab. The snow may have been about three feet. The trail was packed but several have bare booted and post holed all the way. Out of the nine people that ascended today only four of us had snow shoes on. One person was wearing sneakers. All three dogs we met were barefooted with natural claw crampons. It was bright and sunny with just a hint of a breeze. The temp must have been in the mid fifties to sixty. I sat at the top for an hour and got a good sunburn on my face from the reflection off the snow. I have had enough of winter. "Bring on the black-flies" I also found out my camera's date and time were wrong.

I was up there a few winters ago and 2 F-16 fighter jets flew right by the mountain. They were low enough that we could look down on them even without being in the tower. Iv seen plenty of A-10s buzzing mountain tops and lakes but those were the first F-16s Iv seen that low. That is a nice tower to enclosed with windows.

wow, i was up there today, and two f-16 fighter jets buzzed by about 200 feet from the fire tower, at about the same height as the top of the towe while i was in it,

about 2 feet of snow, lots of posthole marks right now

Love the views from Arab - was there on Columbus Day last year and got great pictures of the peak fall colors.

As for the planes, they must have forgotten about the A6's that hit a gondola car cable in Italy a few years ago - since then military planes are required to keep a minimum distance from civilian areas...these guys could lose some air time if reported.

Columbus day seems a little late for the peak. I always thought they peaked in that area mid to late September. Even in the southern dacks at that time there isnt much left by Columbus Day.

I thought the air force was supposed to cut back on training missions in the park?

Probably a little past peak - but beautiful just the same.

My wife grew up in Tupper, but had never been there, and really enjoyed seeing the town from up there.
