This is it - we're gettin' close! On Saturday, Jenn and I completed a big loop taking in Gray, Skylight and Marcy. These were winter 46ers number 43, 44, and 45 for us.
The weather started off crystal clear and cold, and stayed clear pretty much until the summit of Skylight, where things started to get obscured, and then Marcy's summit was pretty much gray. Still, tons of wonderful crisp winter scenery throughout the day.
Lots of fresh snow around, and a lot of tiring trailbreaking from the Uphill Lean-to to Lake Tear of the Clouds. Just the right combination of hard and soft layers in the snow to fully sap your strength with every step. Fortunately, as we were taking a break at Lake Tear of the Clouds, we met Jason and Jason who came up the trail behind us (we were ecstatic to see them, them not so much to see us). We had the same itinerary, and teamed up for the remainder of the peaks.
A Marten got into our packs at Lake Tear of the Clouds, as we were ascending Gray, but fortunately the little bugger didn't get everything, so we were able to maintain our calorie intake for the remaining two peaks.
All this and much, much more if you go to my full writeup with pictures, available here:
