Dix and Hough from RT 73

Well the trail to Hough is now open. A large ADK group lead by Claudia and three individual hikers, Rik, Lucky Lura, and me had the pleasure of climbing Dix and reaching Hough.

The cold crisp air was forgotten in the brillant sunshine and clear skies. The views from Dix were amazing. If I didn't need Hough to complete my winter 46, I would have stopped on Dix and takening pictures all day.

The conditions today were great compared to last weekend. It took Rik, Eric, Mimi, and I about 7 hours to reach the summit of Dix's on Feb. 9th. Today it took Lucky Lura, Rik, and I about 4 hours.

The group broke trail to Hough through the tangle of scrub pines dropping down the 800 feet to the col of Hough from the Beckhorn. The 400 foot climb to the summit of Hough is modest compared to the climb of Dix.

The group got to Hough around 12:30 pm, returned to Dix by 2:10 p.m. and were back to their cars by 5:30 pm.

The snow cover is great and one does not need crampons for this hike. Poles are very helpful.

On this hike three different people completed their Winter 46, Jim, Cara, and myself.

    Happy trails.....

    Congratulation Ron, for your 46W.
I am happy to read that. Finaly after the last weekend with an exhausting climb to Dix, you did it. And congratulation to Jim and Cara, who completed their list at the same time with you.
I hope we will see you again, it was nice to chat together.

      Congrats Ron .

We noticed on Noonmark that the "20-30mph" winds that were forecast never materialized. Awesome views.
