With your indulgence, continued...It was a clear and bright day. No direct sun yet because we were so low in the pass and the mountains blocked it. I was able to catch the sun break over the mountain during a quiet moment by myself. I'll write about it more later. It was a fantastic moment in the forest. I have to take time and choose my words carefully to describe it.
On Sunday morning I walked up the hill behind the lean-to for a few minutes of quiet solitude. My muscles were stiff from yesterdays efforts, cold air prickled my lungs, my body complained. No matter, now or later, I had to work the kinks out. We still had to backpack out. A carpet of newly fallen leaves cascaded over the toes of my boots as I shuffled along. The leaves were deep and masked the trail. It was a bright, clear and cold morning but no sun as we were low between the mountains ranges. Things were a little grey and muted.
I found a comfortable spot and sat. The short hike warmed me. Looking down at the lean-to from this hight I could not hear my companions chatting and the brook was silent. All was quiet, very quiet, very still and calm. Deep in my soul It felt good. The cold crispness made the quiet intense. That's a funny phrase, quiet intensity, but it helps to explain the impact this setting was having on me. My mind wandered and I mused. I'm alone, I'm not alone, I'm nothing and everything all a once. Feeling connected I was at peace. All was well.
From the cornner of my right eye bright yellow emerged from behind the mountain range. I must be facing north. Sunlight splashed across the forest floor and down the tree trunks like someone took a wide paint brush and only painted one side of the trees. The leaves at my feet came to life with their fall colors. My own private show, their final curtain call, before the fall rains drains them of their beauty. Even the moss and lichens brighten showing color patterns I've never noticed before. I've really never look at them closely but God put a spotlight on them so I cuold marvel at his beauty, both bold and subtle. It's good. Gazing down I see the lean-to is still in the mountains shadow.
It's interesting how the fates pull together a combination of, what appears to be random, events that result in a few beautiful and inspirational minutes. The day, time, place and the need for private solitude all came together. I would have missed this all if the door had not fallen off the latrine.
Peace

Nice pictures. Thanks.
I thought (felt) the hike up (& down) the pass was the toughest part for me. Does you GPS thing tell how long & the elevation for that section? I can estimate from the map but you have the nifty technology.Leave a comment:

I just read a TR the other day that had a plane crash site on Wright peak, complete with a plaque and some wreckage...
Of course I can't find it now...
----
*EDIT*
It was not a trip report. I was browsing photos from Kevin's site: ADKhike. He has pictures of the plaque and the wreckage...Leave a comment:

I don't know where I got that from.
I just checked the report I was thinking of
and it doesn't even say where it was.Leave a comment:

Actually, without fanfare, i have doggedly and determinedly bagged the lowest 100.
However in the interest of being social, i would be more then happy to repeat one of them.
But, then again, maybe I can introduce you guys to some of the lesser know "flat" sections that are less traveled

Cool. I'd be glad to hit one of the other 54 for a short day and a leisurely dinner hanging out by a fire.
Hawk[/QUOTE]I've hung out with faster and I've hung out with slower. It's all good for me.Plus it'll make Little Rickie more secure, seeing someone huff & puff more then him.Leave a comment:

That would be great !
Also, that Vittle- "breakfast quiesh", keesh, or however it's spelled, was simply "to die for".Leave a comment:
