Yesterday (Sunday was my birthday and I had decided to spend it sipping champaign on Marcy. I had asked everyone that I saw to come to my party but when they found out where the party was they decided not to come. Four of us drove up to the Loj in the dark to get an early start. It was just starting to spit snow in the parking lot. By the time we got to Indian Falls the snow was sticking to wooden board crossings and they were very slippery. Then it started sticking to the rocks and they became slippery. When we reached the junction with .6 miles to go everything was covered with snow. A couple of guys we met there said it was brutal on top, so we stopped there and put on more gear. One of our group had crampons and they worked great for him. The summit was covered with rime ice and snow and the wind was blowing HARD. We stood on the very summit rock and quickly took a couple of pictures, then we went down to where the plaque is and were protected a little from the wind. The champaign was opened and we all did a toast and had a sip. :drink: We probably spent 20 minutes total on top. Visibility was about 20-30 feet. How often do you have the summit of Marcy to your selves? :headbang: It was very difficult coming down. For a long ways down the rocks were covered with snow which made them very slippery. We took turns falling and fortunetly no one got hurt. Even though we were all wearing Gortex, we were all wet by the end of the hike. It was one of the best birthday parties I've ever had!

How in the world did you all end up wet in Goretex? Glad you enjoyed yourselves. That just goes to show the true spirit of hiking. Kudos! -
