Giant and RPR via Zander Scott Trail 6-24-07

My brother and I decided to get one of those loose end peaks that we still needed - Rocky Peak Ridge. We climbed Giant back in September of 04 but did not have ideal conditions. We had better luck this time around. Conditions were great. The Ridge trail is as beautiful as I remembered, with more and more mountains coming into view with each trodden step.

Some great switchbacks above the washbowl. I don't remember these on my last visit. The trailwork below the washbowl is also fantastic.

Bugs were kept at bay by wind on Giant, but they were thick on RP (black flies). I like the view from RPR even better than the super view from Giant. Rocky just has a cool summit. The trail heading up RPR was awesome. The trail off Giant into the col was not as bad as I had heard, but not great either.

Today was the first true test for my new pack, Gregory Z55, and I was extremely pleased with its performance.

Pics to come. Comments and questions encouraged.

The trail from route 9 to rocky ridge peak is truly awesome. When you have a chance I highly recommend it. You may want to station a car at Chapel Pond though, hiking back over the ridge would be a pretty long day, especially if you climbed Giant as well.

Thanks for posting, Kevin. I plan on doing RPR from Rte. 9 in the fall when the foliage is at its peak. I have to say that many I hike with agree with you about this trail, and it looked pretty cool yesterday (what I could see anyway).
