    Basin (and the Paradise beyond)

CHANGED TEXT - Thought better of posting this trip. Suffice it to say, we went to Basin and it was fun

    Tim,

I have no intention of ever going there, but where did you leave the marked trail to get to this spot? How long did it take to get to the meadow? Would there be any way to get there from below?

      Nice day

      Great pictures.

I love Basin. I was pretty spooked up there this past January--solid ice on the trail and we had no choice but to go up and over Saddleback.

Sunday, Oct. 3 was about as perfect as ever in the ADKs. Friday, Oct 1, was about the same. I was trouncing around Speculator over the weekend.

Tim, you KNOW I'm dumb enough to try this someday.

It does look really peacefuyl and beautiful at that spot, and Basin is a great peak.

Are you 100% sure there isn't an "easier" way to this location? I'll assume you've studied the topos on this, but I'm thinking is it possible to go back the way you came in... ?

Your pics are great Mavs. I had heard about the Amphitheatre once before but never saw any pictures of it. The rock wall seem really impressive. It's pretty tempting to go take a look in person. And it's on spectacular Basin to boot.

p.s. Good of you to point out the dangers of this bushwack. It's should be added on the "Not to do alone" list (if there is one).

// -- CHANGED TEXT - I appreciate wanting to go back in there, I did. But I'm sorry, I will not share our route. For 2 reason. 1) true whakers will find there own way and do not need my help. And 2, It's NOT safe. A very experienced ADK whacker I know (and shared my route with) just came back and said she gave up on route, and that we were nuts. I feel horrible if someone got hert trying it. I hope you can understand that. --//

We did our homework on this one, topo's, photo's and brought a guy that had been there. It made it no easier. It was really cool, just tought to get there. If you do go, be careful the meadow is fragile.

                I hear that.

It won't be until next year (at the earliest) that I start to plan this one, have a lot of stuff ahead of the ampitheater.
