Snowshoe to Scarface, from Averyville Road.
Saturday morning, 30 degrees and a loud crunchy 1 - 2' of snow. Judy, Randy and I started out from Averyville Road, and headed Northwest skirting by Cameras Pond on a four wheeler path.
Crossing a saddle we found a cool "balance rock".
At the base of Scarface, due South of the of the peak, we found the remains of an old hunter/loggers cabin.
This is where we started off the trail and started bushwacking up the mountain.
A third of the way up, we took off our snowshoes and strapped them to our packs. The temperatures were above freezing and we were down to our tee-shirts.
The sun had melted most of the snow for about the next 100 yards.
The terrain was getting steeper and the snow depth of 1 - 2' had returned.
We put our snowshoes back on and zig-zagged to the top.
Ate a small lunch, what a great day, beautiful sun, mid thirties and perfect vistas.
The desent was down the East side, it was nice and steep.
We zig-zagged through the thick stuff and avoided the stone cliffs.
There were some perfect snowshoe skiing sections till the terrain leveled off.
Near the head of Ray Brook we turned South and headed back to Averyville Road.
We were out for about 5 hours.
Just a super, super snowshoe.
