Distance: about 10 miles
Time: 5.5 hrs.
Had a great day on my first hike in central NY.
I bare booted, the east facing slopes had about 8-12 inches of granular- on top of the ridges there was no snow at all. After reaching Labrador Hollow snow was no longer an issue but the FOG was. Sadly no views of the surrounding hills from reported spectacular vistas. About 2 miles later you reach Tinker Falls. This was the highlight of the trip. The trail down was a nail biter due to frost and thin snow. After getting down and taking in the whole falls I fell in love with the area. Steep hills on each side, cradling a 25-30 ft water fall. I would love to go back next season and do some back country skiing in that area. After eating lunch behind the waterfall and taking a breather I continued the loop. After one more steep ascent the trail becomes fairly easy. Passed one guy with his dog. Only saw one other footpath, person must have gone by while I was eating lunch.
The loop seen in 25 walks in the finger lakes region is no longer cut. Once i reached Sackham rd, i had to walk about 2 miles to hit Herlihy rd, which is a seasonal road (snowmobile trail in the winter) back to my truck.
This was a great hike. I am looking forward to going back when there is clear skys and no more snow. Hopefully I can catch a day when people are Hang gliding. There is only a few steep sections that will be easy to navigate in dry conditions. GOOD TO BE BACK ON THE TRAILS
