    Skylight

Is skylight dog friendly? Any gnarly steep sections that a well versed backcountry four legged friend may squirm at? We're talking about an 85lb Lab/Shephard.

    Thanks!

A dog should have no problem at all getting up Skylight.

What are the possibilities of the opalescent lean-to's being available this weekend? How heavily used are they?

On Labor Day weekend I would suspect that it would be hard to even find a tent site that is available. When camping in the High Peaks I always assume the lean-tos will be taken. Always take a tent.

          Welcome to the forum BTW

            Agree about labor day weekend.

During the winter months you have better odds to grab a lean-toin the high peaks just for the simple fact there's fewer hikers.

I figured as much. I don't usually contribute to the masses, but we haven't bagged a peak this year..... maybe we should just wait.......

              Reccommend any remote trout ponds?

You're always welcome at the ADKForum Camporee this weekend. It's an opportunity to meet some professional screwups up close and personal.

Just to survive the weekend is an accomplishment!

Hey Kev, maybe we need some "I survived the ADKforum Camporee" patches.

Does a trail exist to get into the Preston Ponds area?

                    Yup.

Follow the trail from Upper Works toward Indian Pass. There will be a trail that cuts to the left about a mile in that goes to the ponds and to Duckhole. If you get to a lean-to on the Pass trail you have gone too far. I had good luck fishing just below the dam at Duckhole last year. I'm not sure how the fishing is in the Preston Ponds, because I've never fished them.
                    Good luck

My beagle made it up no problems. It's a steady climb from Four Corners, but not overly steep or difficult.

Be sure to bring up a rock for the pile on the summit (supposedly to appease the weather gods).
